# Conner Groth

> Software engineer building AI systems that actually ship. Incoming Apple intern, CU Boulder CS, and undergraduate researcher working on applied AI, reliability, and the infrastructure that turns prototypes into real tools.

## Current

- Incoming Software Engineering Intern at **Apple** — Screen Time, Test Engineering (Summer 2026, San Diego)
- Computer Science student at the **University of Colorado Boulder**, Business minor (expected graduation May 2027)
- Undergraduate researcher at the **Genetic Logic Lab** at CU Boulder (https://geneticlogiclab.org)
- Founder of **Lucence Labs** (https://lucence.so), building Sift — an AI academic assistant
- Based in Boulder, CO

## About

I'm a builder focused on AI systems that cross the gap between demo and production. My work sits at the intersection of applied machine learning, software reliability, and thoughtful product design. I care about the unglamorous parts of engineering — error handling, observability, graceful degradation, security — because they're what separate prototypes from tools people actually depend on.

I'm drawn to problems where design philosophy meets systems thinking: how do you build software that feels coherent from first principles? How do complex behaviors emerge from simple rules? These questions show up in both my academic writing and the products I ship.

## Experience

### Apple — Software Engineering Intern
**Screen Time, Test Engineering · Summer 2026 · San Diego, CA**

Incoming intern on the Screen Time Test Engineering team. Joining after a multi-round recruiting process that included competing offers from other Apple teams.

### Genetic Logic Lab, CU Boulder — Undergraduate Researcher
**Synthetic Biology Tooling · https://geneticlogiclab.org**

Research contributor working on AI-assisted tooling for synthetic biology. Primary project: SeqImprove, a tool for sequence annotation and curation in genetic construct research. Research publications in progress — will be listed here as they're published.

### IM — Founding Software Engineer
**Conversational AI for Older Adults**

First engineering hire. Built conversational AI systems designed for accessibility and safety with older users, including voice interfaces, fallback patterns for ambiguous interactions, and safeguards appropriate for a sensitive user population.

### Soaper — Software Engineer
**HIPAA-compliant Voice Agent**

Contributed to the engineering of a HIPAA-compliant voice agent for healthcare workflows. Focus on audit logging, data minimization, and safe handling of protected health information.

### Blueprint Boulder — Engineering Lead
**Software for Special-Needs Families · 6-person team**

Led a six-person engineering team building software tools for families with special-needs children. Managed technical direction, mentoring, and delivery across a volunteer engineering organization.

## Education

### University of Colorado Boulder — BS Computer Science, Business Minor
**2023–2027 (expected) · Boulder, CO**

## Projects

### Sift
An AI academic assistant for students, integrating Canvas, Google Calendar, Gmail, and iMessage into a single briefing-first interface. Currently in active development at Lucence Labs.

Features include a morning briefing that synthesizes the day ahead, an end-of-day digest, a daily reflection prompt, and conversational command over academic workflows via a multi-turn tool-using LLM backend. Security infrastructure includes AES-256-GCM encryption, rate limiting, and HSTS. Built with Swift/SwiftUI on the client and Python/FastAPI on the backend.
